School Mission
- The mission of June Jordan School for Equity is to help a diverse group of students achieve the highest academic standards so that they can give voice to their dreams and grow into healthy, productive adults. We live out this mission by guiding young people to discover and explore their passions, to grow into independent, reflective thinkers, and to build connected, socially just communities, both inside and outside of school.
In 2007, 73% of JJSE graduates were admitted to a 4-year university. Graduates attended many excellent local colleges such as San Francisco State University, as well as very competitive universities such as UC Berkeley, Dartmouth, and Yale.

Instructional Program Highlights
- A small school community with a strong emphasis on parent connections. Students should choose JJSE if they want teachers communicating closely with their parents. Parent conferences are mandatory every semester and advisors call home with updates on a regular basis.
- A college prep school, where all students are expected to meet UC and CSU requirements. Students should choose JJSE if they are interested in attending college, and are willing to take the classes to meet all UC and CSU requirements (which are greater than SFUSD graduation requirements).
- A school where students graduate based on mastery as well as credits. To graduate from JJSE, in addition to meeting the SFUSD credit requirements, students must complete Masterpieces, which are presentations of major pieces of original work showing that the student has met high standards in five academic areas. To move from the 9th /10th grade “Junior Institute” to the 11th /12th grade “Senior Institute,” students must complete and present Portfolios in the same academic areas. (If a student does not pass Portfolios or Masterpieces, he or she must re-present or remain at JJSE for a “Bridge” year.) Students should choose JJSE if they want to do this extra work and be able to proudly show that they are ready for college.
- An innovative small school with programs that are different from the norm. Students and families should choose JJSE if they want to do weekly service learning and internships in the community, take classes at San Francisco State, and do an end-of-the-year intersession where students take an all-day, every-day PE focused class, including overnight trips.
